nudges dog treats made in the usa

When I picked up my pugs Frank & Beans from their previous owner, she gave me several of the items she had for them. They came with a kennel, collars, a leash, dog food and some treats. I didn’t really consider the food or treats that much, I just used them because I knew it was what they were familiar with in their previous home. It was only about a week after I brought the pugs home that I caught a news story discussing a large dog treat recall. The treats that the previous owner had given me were the same brand that had the recall, but thankfully our bag wasn’t part of the recall. However, that recall brought to my attention that the treats were made in a foreign country that has had a lot of recalls. I quickly decided that I would not buy any dog products made in that country anymore. I later saw recalls from other countries, and decided to increase my dog treat requirement to ‘made in the USA’. Over the years as I have learned more about dog food and treat quality, and have tried different options, my list of requirements has grown.

Made in the USA is still the most important factor for me. However, I also prefer treats that:

  • Are able to be torn into small pieces
  • Are high in protein
  • Don’t have a mile-long ingredient list
  • Come in a chicken variety

I realize the chicken variety is a bit of an odd request. However, I can’t help but smile at how excited Beans gets over anything chicken-based!

I was recently at Walmart and I picked up two bags of Nudges® Dog Treats because they checked all of my requirements, and even had additional features that got me excited.

nudges dog treats

Nudges® Dog Treats are “human inspired” wholesome dog treats that are made in the USA. In other words, they are absolutely adorable dog treats that are made to look like human foods such as burgers and grilled chicken strips. All of their products have a protein (Beef, chicken, salmon or duck) as their #1 ingredient. The treats contain no artificial flavors or fillers, they are 100% REAL Nudges have never been recalled or removed from the market, which makes me feel great about giving these to my dogs.

When I opened the bag and felt the treats, I was immediately impressed with how tender they are. They are extremely easy to tear into custom-sized pieces. I love this because it allows a bag to last a really long time, and I can ‘treat’ my dogs several times without stacking up the calories as quickly.

  • That featured image is super cute! What a pose! 😛 Don’t own any pets so I was a bit lost at first but learnt so much while reading this post. 😉

That’s good you’re thinking about your pet’s health and the right way to feed them snacks. It makes me sad to see some pet owners overfeed their pets and the animals suffer because of it. I like these have no filler ingredients too.

  • All of my dogs have really sensitive stomaches. As soon as I give them treats they either get the runs or throw up. This treat sounds great! I will definitely look into them 🙂

  • Robin Rue

My dog would love a snack like this! We are always looking for new treats to reward when good behavior is done.

  • What a cute doggie! These snacks look great – I wonder if my parents’ dog will enjoy – I’d say so!

  • Sarah Bailey

These look like such great treats. I will be letting my friend know about them.

What a good treats for the dogs. My mom should know this nuggets

  • Sounds like a great treat! I can’t wait to check it out for my fur babies!

I love the names of your pugs! These look like treats my pugs will love!

  • I avoided pet foods that were full of fillers for my pets. I just can’t imagine feeding them cheap foods with stuff that their bodies were not meant to digest.

  • Fur babies are a lot like real babies. We want to provide them with quality foods that are good for them. I’m glad to know that Nudges has no artificial flavors or fillers.

  • Sharing this to a close friend of mine who has many babies (puppies). She needs to read this.

My crazy dobie would LOVE these treats! Your pugs are absolutely adorable and I hope they are enjoying the nudges.

  • What a great post! I love how tender Nudges are, they make a great addition to our treat selection!

These definitely sound like amazing dog treats! I am also big on buying things that are made in the USA, so this is a huge plus for me. I also love that they are only made with a few ingredients, without all of the unnecessary and unhealthy fillers. Thanks for sharing, I’m going to pick some up for our new puppy! 🙂

Do they contain fresh meat? As in needing to be refrigerated?

  • Dotty J Boucher

These treats look really delicious, not for me but for the dogs. I like that they come in bite sizes.

  • Holly Thomas

My fur niece Miss Abby loves these!

They do have fillers Rice is a filler. The steak variety has chicken in it. I consider that a filler also since I wanted steak. My dog has been sick since eating it. My comments don’t really mean much, I wasn’t paid for them.

  • Ann Mozingo

My older cocker has been sick since he first ate the steak grillers nudges. He is at vets now, getting fluids and trying to stop the throwing up. How liver is swollen. He loved them but they sure don’t like him. Help me understand. Is it poison, perserverties are What?

  • Why does this product have sugar, but doesn’t give the amount on the bag?

  • How much sugar is in the individual treat? If it’s a beef griller, why does it also have chicken?

    I noticed Anita G Winter posted a comment TODAY March 27, 2018. About 2 or 3
Mondays ago, I opened a new bag of Nudges Grillers between 9 & 10 am & gave each dog their treats(these are my neighbors dogs & I’ve been giving them Nudges for 4 years ). By mid-afternoon Both Dogs got SICK so I called Nudges# who forwarded me packaging to ship the Nudges to them for inspection. A week later Nudges company called & said they found nothing in their tests & that ‘their vendor’ was in good standing with them. Now I see that others have had dogs get sick around this same timeframe. Luckily, both dogs ages 2 & 4 are okay now. Now all Dog treats will be homemade as I’ve read too many horror stories!! So Sad!!

I haven’t had a problem and my dog loves them…but I have heard a lot of dogs getting sick….my concern and I can’t find out is although their chicken comes from the USA do they send it to China for PROCESSING…that is my concern….I want NOTHING that has gone to China. Unfortunately a lot of USA products go to China for processing ?

  • Clare

My dog just got incredibly sick from these. Had significantly elevated liver enzymes and had to be put on medications.

We have been buying nudges for our dog for years; unfortunately we will no longer buy them Our Beagle is 15 years old and has been developing kidney problems. When I contacted nudges they would not tell me how much
phosphorous is in the Nudges. They said they aren’t required to do so. If you have an older dog they should be on
a low phosphorous diet. Check with your Vet if you need to verify.

I too have been giving Nudges steak grillers. I buy the 48 oz bags from Sams Club. They used to smell like real steak when you opened the bag. The last 2 bags smell awful & my 2 German Shepherds no longer seem eager to eat them they even turn them down when offered
Steak used to be the first ingredient. I don’t know what changed but when these 2 bags are done I will look for a new treat to give them. Something changed. Not for the better. Very sad as I felt good giving them a quality treat.

  • Haven’t seen these in Australia before. They look awesome! Can’t wait to order one.

It is a shame they sold to Blue Buffalo. Two bags with bugs. They said they would mail coupons, twice, which they never did.
