One of my biggest headaches last school year was making my kids lunch. I would put together a meal I thought they would enjoy. At the end of the day, I would find out that they didn’t like what they saw, so they didn’t eat it. Savannah would just not eat. She came home exhausted and starving. Cheyenne would charge a school hot lunch. She too would come home sleepy and usually had a stomach ache. It was not a good situation for any of us!
Towards the middle/end of the school year, I gave up. I stopped making my kids lunch. I provided them with healthy options and let them pick and choose. They were encourage to take one main, one fruit, one veggie, one small treat and an afternoon snack. If they didn’t like what was in their lunch, that was on them. Letting Savannah make her own lunch was the answer. She did great making healthy choices. Cheyenne needed a little more help. I would give her two options and let her choose which went into her lunch. This arrangement worked!
This year, I plan to do the same. I am going to create a spot in our refrigerator with healthy lunch options. I will also have a designated lunch area in our pantry. Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us.
