I have been provided with a Nutrisystem plan in exchange for sharing my honest experience and results on my blog. All opinions are my own.

Ryan works from home, so sticking with Nutrisystem is extremely easy for him. However, it can be a convenient program for people who eat lunch and/or snacks at work as well because most entrees only require a microwave to cook. However, this week Ryan was helping a family member move from early in the morning until late evening for two days in a row. In the midst of moving, they didn’t always have a microwave hooked up at either location so he opted to avoid Microwaving his meals for a few days. I thought I would share how he managed to do that, in case others are curious how Nutrisystem can work if you don’t have microwave access at work.

Nutrisystem plans vary a little depending on gender, but this is Ryan’s plan:

  • Breakfast: A Nutrisystem breakfast entree + 1 PowerFuel
  • Morning snack: 1 PowerFuel and 1 SmartCarb
  • Lunch: Nutrisystem lunch entree, 1 PowerFuel and 1 SmartCarb
  • Afternoon Snack: Nutrisystem provided snack
  • Dinner: Nutrisystem dinner entree
  • Evening snack: Nutrisystem provided snack

“Powerfuels” are high quality proteins that are around 100 calories each. Examples include greek yogurt, about 2 oz of lean meats, low-fat cheese, etc.

“SmartCarbs” are usually fruit or whole-grain breads. They are high in fiber and around 100 calories each.

Here is an example of how Ryan was able to stay with the plan without a microwave or refrigerator until dinner time.

Nutrisystem breakfast

Breakfast: Nutrisystem cinnamon bun (can be heated but doesn’t have to be) 1 oz of beef jerky for a powerfuel.

Morning snack: Another 1oz of beef jerky (PowerFuel) and an apple (SmartCarb).

Lunch: Nutrisystem chocolate peanut butter bar, 1 oz of beef jerky (PowerFuel) and 1 banana (SmartCarb)

Afternoon snack: Nutrisystem white cheddar popcorn.

Ryan was able to come home before having dinner so he could microwave his dinner entree. However, if you have to work late you could swap your dinner entree (which needs to be microwaved) with a second snack and then eat dinner at your evening snack time instead.

Do you eat lunch at work? Do you have access to a fridge or microwave?

  • Boy, they make it easy for you to stay on the program. If I needed to lose weight, I would really consider them. It also seems like something easy to keep around for a emergency meal even if you are not on a diet.

I must say i am very impressed with the food choices they offer.

I don’t need to lose weight, but this looks like a good program with lots of choices.

I like how he is adding beef jerky. This is something most would really like and it is high protein. I am glad he is doing so well, I am betting he is feeling better and lighter on his feet!

Oh I love any kind of jerky and as long as you’re not watching your salt for high blood pressure, it’s a great snack. I think that’s the key to the dieting–to have good foods available, when the cravings hit.
