Thank you to Parish Parcel for sending me this box in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
My boyfriend and I always talk about what it would be like to travel. One place we talk about in particular is Louisiana. I find myself so inspired by the state’s culture, music, food, and lifestyle. Did you know that Louisiana refers to their counties as parishes? That’s just one of the many unique things that come with living in the bayou state. While we don’t plan on traveling there for a while, there are many ways to bring the Louisiana culture to us and to you, too! One of those ways include the Parish Parcel box.
Parish Parcel is a unique subscription service that brings Louisiana’s Cajun lifestyle to your front door. In each box contains 6 to 8 authentic Louisiana made items including spices, apparel, food, art, music, recipes, and other Louisiana made merchandise. Each month they focus on a different parish and include items that are from that certain area.
Parish Parcel has two boxes that you can subscribe to. The Parish Parcel Standard Box is $29.00 which includes the 6-8 items. The Parish Parcel Lagniappe Box is $49.00 and includes everything in the standard box plus a custom Louisiana themed item (Like a shirt.) You can buy items you’ve seen in the box individually on the site store.
Each box comes with an information card explaining what is in the box as well as a couple of other cards that include things like recipes, fun facts, artwork, and music. The Baton Rouge Parishes are the main focus of the September 2016 box.
Cafeciteaux Coffee Roasters Ethiopia Adado Gedeo Coffee ($4.50)
My boyfriend and I are huge coffee people, we love trying new brews and blends. I loved that this box came with a small bag of coffee to try – we brewed this right away. The flavor was very rich and not too bold. It definitely had a crisp feeling to it and you could taste the flavors really well. The only problem I have with this is that it didn’t come in a bigger size because I would of drank this as my normal coffee!
The Cajun Spoon Shrimp and Corn Bisque ($4.50)
I really enjoyed the fact that Parish Parcel included a little meal box. I think the Cajun Spoon Shrimp and Corn Bisque was an excellent choice since this food is very popular in Louisiana. Basically, the box just gives you the mix for the bisque and you have to go out and buy the other ingredients. They tell you everything you need and how to make it. I think this would be great for a party or family dinner where you can try something new.
Red Stick Spice Co. Baton Rouge Burger Blend ($9.00)
This Baton Rouge Burger Blend is perfect for when you want to season any meats you’re cooking. It’s recommended that you use 1 teaspoon to 1 pound of ground meat. My boyfriend and I added about a tablespoon since we like the bold flavor and it tasted amazing! If you taste the spice by itself, it almost tastes like the seasoning on a barbecue chip – sweet, but with a slight kick. It makes the meat taste the same way.
Hanley’s Avocado Dressing ($6.00)
Hanley’s Avocado Dressing is great for people who like things a bit more healthy. It doesn’t have soy, gluten, GMOs, or other “junk”. When you taste this dressing by itself, it’s very oily and has a thick texture. When you put it on salads or other foods, it tastes a lot better because it’s more spread out. I used this on veggies, salads, and cucumbers that I snack on!
Four Seasons of Louisiana Plastic Spoonrest ($3.00)
I like the idea of having useful items come in subscription boxes. Sometimes you get filler items and other times you get products like this. This spoonrest is extremely useful as it is adorable. The design features pictures of crab, oyster, shrimp, and crawfish – the four seasons of Louisiana. I can’t wait to use this in the kitchen!
Louisiana Sunshine Soap Company Evangeline Soap ($5.00)
The Evangeline (Rose) soap was specially created for the Parish Parcel box. Some of the ingredients include Olive Oil, Rose Water, Coconut Oil, Fragrance Oil, and Natural Rose Petals. I love handcrafted soaps – they are creative, beautifully made, and smell more amazing than any antibacterial soap. This one is no different. The rose scent is pleasant and the texture is smooth. My hands felt extremely soft after using.
The September 2016 Parish Parcel box had a total value of $32.00. It went over the amount you paid for the box, but I honestly think it could of did a better job at giving you better value for your money. I really liked all the items in the box though – I thought everything tasted great and was useful. The variety of everything was great, too. It wasn’t just all food or just lifestyle items; it came with a little bit of everything. I can’t wait to use the spoonrest and make the shrimp and corn bisque.

My husband and I booked a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras in 2017. It’s been on our bucket list to see Mardi Gras and it’s our 20th wedding anniversary gift. I really like these subscription boxes. My son gets Loot Crate.

OMGosh! I’m from Louisiana. I grew up in New Orleans, though now I live in California. There’s a great Louis Armstrong song “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans’; and I do – every day. If we got this box it would be like a care package for my brother and me.
