For the past two weeks, I’ve been wanting to surprise our kiddos with a trip to the local zoo. But wouldn’t you know, it’s either been raining, too windy, or we have had plans. Today, though, showed promise so after everyone was up, we got packed up to head out on our mini fun day at the zoo. As the kids got their shoes and sweatshirts on, I helped our youngest two into their Freshly Picked Moccasins!

With Summer now over, today was a great Fall day to break in our new Freshly Picked Moccasins. The gorgeous Zion Moccasins (created from the top selling Utah leather collection) and Santa Fe Moccasins (awesome blue boho print on the back of the weathered brown leather) were the perfect choice today as I love how these great shoes offer flexibility, comfort, and style for our kiddos. They are perfect for our walker as well as the younger non-walkers.
And we’re off! Traveling with the six-pack crew and myself today.
While we did bring our wagon, I knew our little walker would be on the go quite a bit too. And, sure enough, as soon as we paid and headed through the door, the very first exhibit has her on her feet! I couldn’t blame her. Getting up and close to a penguin isn’t something that happens every day.
Before we got too far into the zoo, I grabbed a photo opp by the tortoises of five of the kiddos. (Baby was sleeping in the travel system and I just couldn’t make myself wake him for a picture.)
As we rounded the corner, we passed some monkeys, a baby camel, porcupine, and then came to some water animals including a black swan and ducks.
By this time, our 2 year old has walked, climbed, and ran with ease through the zoo, yet her feet stayed protected and comfortable all the way. So as we headed to the farmyard enclosure, she decided it was time to let someone pull her in the wagon and sit back to enjoy the ride for a bit.
It seems like almost every tourist attraction offers great photo ops and our local zoo is no different! From penguins to pumpkins, and Frozen too, we had to stop and grab some fun shots.
Traveling on, we came across some new exhibits! We were thrilled to find a really fun, brightly colored parrot and then some flamingos! Also walking around and coming right up to us were some swans. So cool!
One stop that we always make at this particular zoo is to their learning center. They have a selection of things that the kids can touch, read, and learn from including: honeycomb, bees wax, tortoise shell, bongo drum, lizards, ostrich egg, and more. The building door stays open so “visitors” are common too!
By this time, our kids were begging to go to their absolute favorite part of this zoo…… the bird house! We had purchased some seed sticks so, upon entering, the birds actually come right up to people to eat. It’s super fun and such a unique experience. We typically spend upwards of an hour in this one spot because we all enjoy it so much!
All this zoo time fun sure does wear a little person out though! The little one is asleep again.
I will admit though, I cringed as our two year old ran through a half dried up mud puddle between the birds and the lemurs. So I encouraged her to do some more walking instead of riding and the mud wore itself right back off! Phew. Now on to lemur land fun.
Finally, we rounded off our fun day at the zoo with a visit to the giraffe pen. Besides the monkeys, this is my favorite as they look so neat up close. Plus, this guy kept following us along the pen!
In closing, another day in memory books for our family. Even though dad had too much work to tag along, the kids and I had a blast.

Freshly Picked Moccs stay on! The elasticized ankle really offers a great fit. Our daughter ran around, climbed, played on the playground, and much more without any problem. Even our little guy, whose were just a little big, stayed on. (I purchased a newborn size which fit him perfect right now but the brown pair in this post were size 1 and no issues with his either.)

This is awesome. I’ve wanted some for my daughter but didn’t know how well they’d hold up for walking kids. I thought maybe they were just meant as crib shoes. Can’t wait to get some for her now. They’re so freaking cute!
