I remember that, as a child, I really looked forward to Halloween.  Let’s be honest here…. Dressing up in costume is fun any day of the year but to have a date where lots of people do it together makes it extra fun.  I remember driving around to all the neighbors “loading up” on treats.  (We lived in the country so “neighbors” were actually miles away.)  But I also remember that, after a day or two, those treats really weren’t all that important.  It was truly the memories that made Halloween special.  Now, as a parent myself, armed with the knowledge of how bad certain foods, drinks, and treats are, I’ve come to really understand the importance of creating a healthier Halloween for our kiddos.

Sending a big thank you to CVS for sending us some healthier Halloween goodies!

Our family does still go trick-or-treating but we only let the kids eat a couple pieces of candy before giving the rest away.  So I really love the houses that have options that I can let our children enjoy guilt free.  Recently, I learned of some great choices that CVS offers that would be perfect for creating a healthier Halloween.

First off, before October 31st rolls around, we need to carve our pumpkins!  For years, we relied on kitchen tools to get the job done but never again will I take up that battle.  CVS Stores offer a fun affordable Pumpkin Carving Kit that makes this activity fun, easier, and safer for kids.  Along with the tools comes a pattern book for those of us who are less than artistic (in other words…..ME!)

CVS also offers a variety of healthier food choices and goodies to hand out too!  Their Gold Emblem and Gold Emblem Abound lines include some yummy treats such as popcorn, fruit and veggie snack bars, fruit crisps, gummy bears, yogurt and nut bars, fruit clusters, and more!  Definitely something delicious for every appetite.

Finally, for those who want to hand out a non-food item and celebrate the Teal Pumpkin Project (which means raising the awareness of food allergies and providing treats that all trick-or-treaters can enjoy without worry), CVS also has you covered.  Pick up some of their fun glow sticks or Mello Smello Scratch & Smell Sticker boxes!  My kids are obsessed with these stickers!  The package comes with 20 boxes and each box contains 3 “smelly” stickers.  Both of these make great choices for parties, school treats, and for handing out at the door on Halloween night!

I love the smelly sticker idea! I haven’t been to my CVS in a while and didn’t know they were carrying these types of snacks. I’m going to have to stop in and check them out.

I love CVS. There are always fun things to pick up besides your normal Rx & health related items. I try to pick up more healthy snacks like popcorn for Halloween.

wow these snackies are perfect! The fruit & veggie snack bars would be perfect for my daughters. They are both picky when it comes to veggies but I know they would love them in a snack bar form…they would even know they are in it !

OK I have to say first that the lamb costume is absolutely adorable! LOVE the way it looks!
CVS has some really great deals. They built one a block away and I have enjoyed going there. We don’t get many trick or treaters, the kids mostly go to events.
I think I am doing the teal pumpkin this year, so will have to look for the stickers!

I wasn’t as enamored of the candy as I was of the experience. I don’t think that truly proved itself until I was an adult and took the kiddos trick or treating. I didn’t want the evening to end and I wasn’t the one getting candy!
