These days, there is so much talk about childhood obesity, lack of nutritional food intake, and too much electronic time.  As a parent, it’s truly alarming and both my husband and I feel it’s important to cut any problems off at the starting line.  While every family is different, for our family, that takes shape in having no cable (or any other fancy way of watching television besides an occasional DVD), creating many home cooked meals each week, and heading outdoors as often as weather allows.  Even though we live in the country and have lots of room to run, sometimes our kids still get bored and just need something new and exciting to do outdoors.  That’s exactly where the brand new Yvolution Y Flyer came in.

Sending a big thank you to Yvolution for sending us this awesome Y Flyer Scooter for review!

Scooters have been a popular item for kids (and let’s face it….adults) for years now.  However, there’s a new face in town and this scooter has a unique and very fun twist.  The Yvolution Y Flyer offers a fast and innovative way to travel while having tons of fun.

Assembly of the scooter was easy enough.  Completely unboxing, taking off the plastic protection, and full assembly took under 20 minutes!  As usual, this included many helpers who were eager to see the Y Flyer ready for action.

The Y Flyer is geared for ages 7 and up and I would agree that is fairly accurate.  Our middle son just recently turned 6 and he can’t quite manage it yet.  However, our 9 year old son has been zipping and flying around with ease.  The Y Flyer is operated by simply stepping onto the super grip plates and then stepping up and down alternating feet.  The faster the rider steps, the quicker this scooter goes!

The Y Flyer really has a great design as it seems to work flawlessly and offers fairly easy stability.  Designed with a handbrake, I love that the rider has a way to stop without have to dive off.

The one other fantastic feature I wanted to mention was the fact that they designed the Y Flyer with a kickstand!  I think it’s brilliant as scooters seem to get beat up fast since kids are always having to lay them down.  This kickstand is easy to swing down and up and allows for freestanding when not in use.

Okay, since our son was having such a grand time, I had to try this out.  With a maximum weight limit of 154#, this offers a wide range for users as I know many adults under that limit.  I was thrilled to be able to get a good rhythm going my very first time.  It is truly a lot of fun and we can’t wait to hit the local paved trail with our Y Flyer Scooter!

This looks like so much fun! I’m surprised your girls weren’t all over it!

      Hi Jeanine!

Our 11 year old daughter has only had a chance to play around on it once so far because our son is so enthralled with it! She’s super sweet and has been generous with letting him monopolize it for now since the days are starting to cool down here and she doesn’t like to be cold. Come next Spring and Summer, I know she’ll be on it a ton too!

I know three of my son’s four children would love one of these! The two-year-old might have to wait! I was a big sidewalk skater back in the day and I would have loved one!

Very interesting. Rides like standing up on a bike. I bet my granddaughter would love it.

I noticed you have the front wheel turned backwards. I did this too until my son noticed that the pictured shows it facing the other way. The directions did not specify this. All you have to do is loosen the bottom screw brace and turn the wheel around a retighten. It makes riding easier!

Our wheel is so wobbly. And it faces the right way. When she leans either way, it gets out of alignment. Any suggestions?
