Touchstone publishing books

I was sent two books from Touchstone Publishing.

Ryan & I always exchange a book or two as gifts for the holidays. We both love reading and try to read books that we know align with our world view, and those that seem to oppose it. We both value staying open to new ideas and learning about the experiences of others. When offered to work with Touchstone Publishing I had to say yes. They offer many books that have been on my wish-list for quite a while. I was sent two books from Touchstone Publishing that I wanted to highlight for you all. They are both worthy of being added to your to-read list!

NYPD green

NYPD Green by Luke Waters is a memoir by a retired homicide detective. He immigrated to the US in search of a better job. He had always been drawn to civil service so becoming a part of law enforcement felt like a natural fit. He had a desire to serve and protect. However, his memoir tells how his 20 years of service in the NYPD was much more complicated and heavy than he had anticipated. He saw crooked culture on both sides of the law. It offers a look at corruption and negligence within the police force. It also shares cases covering murder, theft, gang violence and more. It’s an interesting look behind the scenes of a NYPD worker.

Why The Jews

The second book was Why The Jews? The Reason For Antisemitism by Dennis Prager. This book discusses why antisemitism existed and why it continues to exist. It also analyzes why Hitler targeted Jews, the relationship between the US and Israel, and how antisemitism has evolved over time. The concept of antisemitism has always been really difficult for me to understand. I grew up in an area with very little racial or religious variety. However, I grew up thinking that being Jewish was only a religion. I had no idea it was an ethnicity. While I knew it was a religion, all that I really knew about it was they celebrated a different December holiday than I did. I just say that to explain how little I knew about it in general. When you grow up knowing so little about Jewish people, it’s really hard to understand why antisemitism existed. I picked up this book to learn more about this group of people and the discrimination and hatred that they have faced.

Check out these books, or the Touchstone site. They offer so many books that I want to read someday.

  • They both sound like books I would read. Thank you for the review. I will check them out.

Both of these books sound intriguing – in different ways. My husband is a former police officer/sheriff’s deputy and his PhD thesis was centered around leadership training and its impact on public trust so the first book would be an interesting read. On the second book, I agree that I don’t know much about Jews or being Jewish.

Both of these look like very interesting and informative books! I love reading and am always open minded to all categories. I will definitely have to check out the Touchstone site, thank you so much for sharing! 🙂

I like both of these options. Like you, there were not a whole lot of Jewish people in our area. We had diversity among races, but not so much so in religion. I think the second book would be interesting for that.
The first book, sounds good too. Nowdays there is the internet so I am exposed to much more, but it still sounds good as it is an insiders story.
