Valadia chop wizard onion chopper

I was sent a Vidalia chop wizard for review. All opinions are my own.

I absolutely love onions. I add onions to almost every dinner that I cook. They add lots of flavor, are nutritious and are low calorie which are all important to me.

My favorite grocery store often runs sales on 3 pound bags of onions. While the price per pound is usually really good, the bags of onions usually include several small to medium onions which means more chopping. I hate chopping onions because they make my eyes water. For years I have bought the bags of onions to save money and then I’ll spend the time cutting all the onions and letting my eyes water all at once, and then bagging leftovers. That way, I don’t have to tear up every time I want to cook with onions. However, that one day of cutting the entire bag was always rough.

So, I was excited to learn about the Vidalia Chop Wizard. It’s a fairly simple little device that is designed to cut onions quickly, easily and in a uniform manner. The chop wizard is essentially a grated shelf that you lay half of your onion on. Then you close the lid which presses the onion down onto the grated shelf, cutting the onion as it passes through. With the Vidalia Chop Wizard, you just remove the peel on each onion, cut it in half and press. With less cutting of each onion, the onion scent isn’t as strong and it doesn’t bother my eyes as much. Plus, the grid is a uniform pattern so the cut pieces are all the same size.

The chop wizard comes with two different size grates, which will produce different sizes of veggie pieces.

It does require a good bit of force to use, I push down with both hands to get it to work but it’s worth the effort to avoid all the chopping. It’s dishwasher safe but we don’t have a dishwasher. It comes with a little cleaning comb that is the perfect size to clean out the spaces between the grates. It only takes a couple minutes to slide the comb along each of the gaps to make sure no onion pieces are remaining.

This is the results from using the smaller size grate.

I also noticed from a quick google search that there seems to be a lot of brands going by the same or extremely similar names, offering veggie cutting products that are not the same as this one. Even on Amazon there are reviews of people getting swindled by knock-offs. So be very careful when purchasing to make sure you are ordering from an authentic source.
