I remember being in middle school and the gym teacher getting after one girl who was lying on the floor in the locker room. The girl explained that she didn’t want to participate in gym that day because she was having period cramps. The teacher said that being active can help with cramps and other period symptoms.
Honestly, at the time I thought she was making that up just to try to convince the girl. I knew that when I was on my period I usually felt much much sluggish than usual. However, I’ve realized with time and experience that being active while on your period really can help with the annoying or problematic symptoms.
For me, getting active while i’m on my period primarily comes down to finding the motivation. I have to push past that inclination to rest and remember my long term goals. However, once I’ve decided to workout there are a few things that can still help make it more enjoyable.
One of them is having period protection that makes me feel confident that I am protected. Nobody wants to risk their menstrual products failing them while moving about! Plus, most women’s workout clothing is very tight fitting, so wearing a thick or large pad is less than ideal.
U By Kotex Fitness is a line of period protection that is made specifically for active women. The line includes tampons, ultra thin pads and liners. The entire U By Kotex Fitness line is available now at Walgreens locations. I recently stopped in and they were even having a buy one, get one 50% off most of the Fitness items. I decided to purchase the ultra thin pads. Before you stop by your local Walgreens for U By Kotex Fitness make sure to claim your Ibotta offer for $2!
The U By Kotex Fitness Ultra Thin Pads are what I purchased. From the time that I first got my period I’ve never purchased maxi style pads. Thin pads have always been my go-to, but I was really impressed with how tiny the U By Kotex Fitness pads appeared. They seemed more like a pantyliner in thickness than a thin pad. They aren’t kidding when they say ULTRA-thin. I was drawn to these because they are so thin that I would feel more comfortable wearing these with yoga pants or leggings that fit snugly. Plus, they are thinner in front and flare in the back which I love because other pads appear bulky in the front on me. They are specifically designed to stay snugly in place even when you are active. The inside of the pads is truly soft to the touch which I appreciate.
The package is unique because it comes with a drawstring closure that allows the top of the bag to cinch bag shut (and you can knot it to hold in place) once the package has been opened. This way you can throw the pack into your gym bag or even a purse without having your pads spill out. The U By Kotex Fitness Liners come in a similar package with drawstring closure. The tampons from this line come with a special pouch called a FitPak that stores a few tampons inside.
It’s a minor point, but I love how these pads (and other products by U By Kotex) are so bright and colorful. They just have a cheerful design that I enjoy.
My regular fitness routine is to do a workout video every other day. I also count calories and try to drink plenty of water. It’s simple, but I enjoy it and it’s sustainable for me. Now my routine will include using U By Kotex Fitness line on my workout days during my period.

Thanks for your review Emily. That drawstring closure is a good idea indeed. And I agree the pattern is nice, extra points or not. 🙂 They seem to be going to extra lengths to make these comfortable and practical, so ill give them a try.
