Most of you know that my boyfriend has been on a specific meal plan for quite a while now. It’s been great for him, but it leaves me making different meals for myself that are different from what he eats. It feels like a lot of work and effort to make elaborate meals just for myself. However, I try to watch my calorie intake and the quality of what I am eating. Still, there at nights where I’m busy and I just want something really quick and easy, that isn’t full of junk or extremely high in calories.
I heard about Tai Pei, a new line of Asian inspired frozen entrees that use real, quality ingredients with none of the bad stuff like preservatives. Tai Pei entrees contain no preservatives or artificial ingredients. We picked up Several Tei Pai entrees to try the next time that we were at our local grocery store, Meijer.
There are several rice-based entrees, egg-rolls and pot stickers. I decided to try the Tai Pei pepper beef entree first. The main ingredients are infused rice, carrots, broccoli, peas, celery and beef. The entree comes in a microwavable bowl. I love how there is no need to dirty a bowl. These would be great to keep at work because they have such little clean up required. The preparation instructions simply say to remove the outer plastic and to microwave the bowl with the lid on for 4 to 4.5 minutes, then to let it set for 2 minutes, stir and enjoy.

Before trying the entree I was curious about several things. I’m sensitive to the texture of various foods. I don’t like mushy vegetables, and I’m sensitive about the texture of rice sometimes too. I found it interesting that these entrees don’t require any water to be added.
I was pleasantly surprised by the texture of the entire entree. The rice is soft but not too soft. The vegetables (even the peas!) were crisp without being too hard or feeling raw. The beef pieces were tender but solid. Plus, the rice had great flavor. We’ve all tried rice that is extremely bland, and this was not the case at all for the Tai Pei entree. The flavor was sufficient throughout the entire meal. I would even say that it had a slight “kick” to it. It was not so flavorful that I would expect it to turn away a child, but it was not bland at all.
The entire Pepper Beef entree comes to 420 calories which is just about how much I have to “spend” per meal. I have been trying to stick to 1200 calories a day (I am very short and trying to lose weight). I always have a slightly heavier dinner than I do breakfast or lunch, so 420 calories is okay. The meal is really rather generously sized and it’s very filling because of the 13g of protein and 4g of fiber.
I will definitely keep a few Tai Pei entrees in my freezer so that I can have a quick, reasonable and flavorful meal on busy nights!

I gave up on most of the instant meals because of all the bad stuff. I will have to try these.

I love Tai Pei frozen entrees and appetizers! I agree that they are both nutritious and delicious, and I am super picky about frozen meats. Thank you so much for sharing the coupon! 🙂

These look pretty good. I actually like entrees like this especially in the summer. We dont have central air so keeping the temps down is a must. These would be terrific for a decent dinner . I also like the variations.

I’ve tried this brand and I think it is really good. I don’t usually buy the products for just one, but will keep these in mind for the future.
These look really good. I really want to try the potstickers.
