I was sent a Crate and Story subscription box for review. All opinions are my own.
I opened an Etsy shop when I was 18 years old. I remember loving the concept of small businesses even as a child. Over time as my blog here grew, I slowly dedicated less and less time to the Etsy shop and I eventually closed it. I still have a soft spot in my heart for small shops.
Crate and Story is a new subscription box that is designed to send you small samples from small businesses, so you can support shopping small and discover new products at the same time. You can subscribe just one month at a time or in larger segments. The price per box is cheaper if you sign up for a longer subscription, but paying for months individually prices the box at $31.95.
There is no specific themes for the items included, so you can receive just about any kind of artisanal items! The box I was sent included five items. The first thing I noticed once opening the box was how good it smelled! There was sa tiny bar of soap (roughly the size you’d see in a hotel room) from trillium soaps. It had a nice herbal scent to it that made the whole box smell good.
There was a small bag that had three circular containers inside, containing three balms from Orchard Farm Soaps. Rosehip balm, muscle balm, and repair balm.
Next up was an adorable tiny jar of 100% raw honey made in North Carolina from King Cobra Honey. Ryan loves honey so he was excited to give this brand a shot. I’m not really sure what I’ll do with it but the jar is so cute that I’ll have to find some reason to keep it instead of recycling it.
The other edible sample was another that I knew would please Ryan. Golden girl granola! Granola always feels like a treat to him even though it has plenty of nutrition. He’s always up for trying new variations and the forest maple that we were sent seemed like variety to have first thing in the morning.
Last was a small spreader from Jonathan’s spoons. While most of what this brand offers is spoons, the item sent to me was a mini spreader that can be used to put bread on a bagel, for example. I have owned large wooden spoons for cooking but never any wooden spoons for other items so it was interesting to even learn this type of product even existed.
There was also a cute mini crate or bin in the box that was just there to help display the items.
It was fun to get to test out some new items and discover some brands I had not heard of before. I would like to see Crate and Story update their site to list how many items are in the average box, and to mention that in most cases they send sample-sizes instead of full-sized items as I didn’t feel those points were very clear from their website as it is now. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the experience of finding new items!

It is really neat that these boxes are filled with products from small business and come complete with their story. This helps people try products that they would not normally come across! A great gift idea, this are so unique! A way to support our small businesses.

Small business of a husband & wife

I like that the monthly subscription box has handcrafted goods and the stories of the artisans is included. When you know the meaning and inspiration behind things you have, it holds a place more dear to your heart.

I learned that a husband and wife opened this small business.

I found it interesting that the husband and wife duo has been doing this for decades, each hand-picked product is handcrafted, unique. Very neat.
I like supporting small business and also finding new things. I want to try the balms.
