Thank you to HABA for providing me with a product to facilitate my blog review.
All opinions are my own.
HABA offers a wide variety of educational games that kids and parents love and is practically a household name now.
When I was offered the opportunity to review the new Rhino Hero Super Battle game, I was really excited but I have to admit I had really high expectations. And let me tell you something right away: this game didn’t disappoint!
It has all the right ‘ingredients’ to make it a great kids game: simple rules, one part planning and one part unpredictability with a healthy dose of physics and a sprinkle of luck!
Basically, the goal is to be the best super hero which is determined by being the one who’s the highest on the skyscrapers before they crumble. It’s actually a sequel to the original card game ‘Rhino Hero’ which you may already by familiar with.
In this game, we take turns building the skyscrapers with walls and floors. This is the physics part that is fairly strategic because you have to analyse the different possibilities, considering where you opponents are, and how stable the structure seems to be.
Then there are spider monkeys to fend off and of course, as you try to climb to the highest point on the wobbly structure, you also have to battle with the other heros by rolling dice. This is the sprinkle of luck because who knows if you’ll get a good enough roll to climb the skyscraper and another one to defeat the heros on the same level of the structure as you.
And of course, as all of this is happening, you have to keep your fingers crossed that the buildings won’t collapse! There are a few other rules and variations to make the game easier or more challenging but you get the idea of how fun this game can be, right?
We had a blast playing together. The game is designed for kids ages 5 and up which seems to be the perfect age range. Even though my 4-year-old loves it, she does need a bit of help for the planning stage and to understand what is physically possible and preferable (as in, building a floor on a single tall wall on a building that is already unstable might not be a good idea!). The motor skills and precision required are also better developed in kids ages 5 and up and my 6-year-old figured it out pretty quickly.
The game lasts about 10-20 minutes depending on how stable your building are. I like that you could play 100 times and never build the same structure. It makes it fun for kids that each time, they have to plan differently and play their cards differently.
It’s also a great way to learn about physics without knowing you’re learning! It doesn’t take long to realize that a stable base will be helpful and that the more walls your have, the better but that it’s okay even though it wobbles a little if it allows you to climb the highest.
There is nothing I don’t like about the game. The only little criticism I could make is that it would be helpful if there was cue cards with all the steps one has to take during their turn (building, moving the spider monkeys, climbing, fighting, reassigning the medal, drawing a new floor card). It becomes easier to remember after a few games but kids will need help not to forget anything.
What I like the most is that this game has so many possible variations. Want an easier game for little ones? Only choose short walls and/or ignore monkey spiders. Want a more challenging game? Play with your non-dominant game and/or pick the ground tiles with fewer building spots.
Overall, this game was a lot of fun for us! We’ve played many games and the kids are already improving in the way they plan their turns and more cautious about where their build with floor.

Our family loves playing board games together. We have a bunch, but I have never heard of this games, so I appreciate the review. I like that their are variations of the game, because my daughters are young. The game can grow with them. 🙂

This looks like a fun game.I could see how it would be 5 and up as building this would take some balancing skills some younger kids might not have. I like how colorful it is. I also love how you fight off spider monkeys. Haba make some great games!
My son and I would have a lot of fun playing this together.
