I was sent an Acer Chromebook for review. All opinions are my own.

I start feeling old really quickly when I think about how much computers have changed in my lifetime. We got our first home computer when I was about 8. A few months ago, my 2 year old nephew touched my laptop screen and tried to scroll! It’s not a touch-screen, and he was confused. It made me realize that because his home doesn’t have any screens that aren’t touch-screens, he just assumed all screens are! That made me feel pretty old. His home just has phones and tablets.

In 2016 I did an Acer Chromebook 11 review, which Ryan still uses on a daily basis. It’s quite small and he loves carrying it around the house. He uses it in the kitchen to follow recipes or to listen to YouTube videos while cleaning. He also likes to use it to watch shows before bed, and then he can just fold it up and leave it on top of his nightstand because it’s so small! We were a bit worried about damaging it because of it’s 350 degree hinges and touch-screen, it felt a bit fragile to us, but it has not been damaged at all in 2 years of regular use. It made us really fall in love with the Acer brand! So, we were excited to see the Acer Chromebook 15.

The Acer Chromebook 15 has a 15.6 inch screen making it a nice, full sized laptop with a generously sized keyboard. In fact, Acer is the only manufacturer who offers a Chromebook with a 15.6 inch screen! It’s ultra-affordable at $199, and has up to 12 hours of battery life so you can take it on the go without worrying so much about power. We’ve avoided allowing kids to use some of our tables and other small devices because they just seem a bit dainty. The Acer Chromebook 15 is sturdy and clearly built to hold up, so I think it would be a great family computer that children can use. In fact, it’s been reinforced so it can handle more bumps and drops. The case can withstand up to 132 pounds of force, and the corners can tolerate up to 23.6 inch drops without damage.

The big difference between most laptops and a Chromebook, is the operating system doesn’t allow for programs to be installed. Most people these days are playing games or editing photos or creating documents online anyway. However, there is a big benefit to not being able to install programs, and that is, far less room to accidentally download viruses, making this a more secure device for children or perhaps elderly family members to use. The other benefit is it is a bit more like a phone because you can access the Chrome Web Store and check out those devices, AND you can access the 2 million Android apps available in the Google Play Store.

Perhaps my favorite feature of the Acer Chromebook 15 vs my normal laptop is the dual outward-facing speakers and HD audio. My other laptop always sounds muffled, and even at full volume cannot be heard well across the room! I love that they put thought and quality into the audio system for the Chromebook 15.

I really need a new computer, and this looks like a great one to check into!

You know I love the $199 price. I am looking for something bigger than my Samsung or Ipad Tablets but not as bulky as a full size laptop. I spend a lot of time in the hospital or chemo lab so I think I might be sold here. We are also Acer loyal for 12yrs+ now. Fabulous brand!

I like that computer. It is real interesting that it does not have a hard drive. I will have to look at it for a computer that I could use for banking only.

I can see how useful this would be for the uses it has.
