I am so excited to share with you all that my little guy has arrived!
I went into preterm labor at 35 weeks 1 day and spent two days in the hospital. Since my labor did not progress they sent me home – I was having contractions every 2-7 minutes and the contractions did not stop until I delivered him at 37 weeks 2 days. He was delivered via c-section, which I knew was going to be the plan – due to my daughter being born via emergency c-section for placental abruption. With her birth, I had to go under general anesthesia, so I was not awake for her birth and my husband wasn’t allowed in the operating room. This time, the delivery was much less chaotic, and I was able to be awake for the c-section and my husband was able to be present in the operating room, hold my hand, and snap some pictures once our son was born. The cry that I was waiting to hear was more like a squeak, but any sound made me happy!
Our little guy was 7 pounds, 7 ounces at birth and 18.5 inches long. He would have been a big baby if he would have made it to his scheduled c-section date of October 29th! He has strawberry-blonde hair, which came as a surprise to us! His sister was born with dark hair so we were not expecting his light red hair. My husband does have an aunt with red hair and my dad’s mom and dad’s sister have red hair too, but it never crossed our mind that we might get our own little red-head! We will see if his hair changes as he grows. Our daughter’s dark hair has turned lighter and lighter as she has grown. Our little boy has blue/green eyes, but so far he hasn’t shown them to us very often!
Our daughter has been the best big sister! There is about 34.5 months (almost three years) in between our daughter and son. She was excited about her baby brother from the moment we told her about him, and she kept asking me “is he out yet?!” the last month or so. Once he arrived she has been nothing short of amazing with him, she is like a little mommy, very concerned about where he is and how he’s doing at all times. She’s already talking about sharing things with him as he gets bigger. I can’t wait to see them interact with each other in the future. Below is the picture of her meeting her little brother for the first time, along with my husband’s parents.
I spent two days in the hospital after having him, and have spent the rest of the time recovering at home. In some ways this recovery has been easier than my first c-section recovery. I think it’s because I knew what to expect this time. In other ways it has been harder because now there is also my daughter to tend to instead of just the baby. I do have to say that we are so blessed to receive a great deal of help from both my mom and my husband’s mom, whether it be taking care of our daughter or coming to the house to help me here.
I am working on reviewing items for our Holiday Gift Guide to share with you all while on maternity leave. I hope to try out all kinds of baby items to be able to share what I think of them with you all as well.
Thank you to everyone who sent well wishes and prayers for our son’s birth. He is perfect!
