When we made the decision to homeschool our first child nine years ago. I was scared. My biggest worry was “how on earth will I teach her to read?” But all these years later, I’m still homeschooling. And now four out of our five kiddos are reading. Only the youngest, who is 3, hasn’t begun fully reading yet. But she does know all her sounds and can relate which letter goes to which sound. So I’m confident that she will follow suite along with her siblings.
But even though the kids can read, we went through a time with each of them where they didn’t enjoy it. When they were first learning, they struggled. And then we found something that drew them in. Graphic children’s novels!

Did you know there are teaching guides for many of the AMP graphic novels? http://www.ampkids.com/guides
Nostalgia wins and I keep going back to the Peanuts graphic novel. I get the difference between graphic novels and comics but I’ll always think of both as comics.
