Thank you to Harkla for sending this vest. As always, all opinions are my own.
When we made the decision to homeschool this year, I think I underestimated how much actual work it would take to get our daughter focused on school for a portion of each day. We’ve never led a very structured life, and we tend to fly by the seat of our pants most of the time. I’ve found that doesn’t really work with homeschooling because if we don’t start in the morning, we won’t get it done at all. We’ve fallen into a routine now, where I feed the kids breakfast and then we start on school. Our son is just three, so while he sometimes does quiet activities, he can be fairly distracting as well. Our daughter does NOT do well with distractions, and gets jealous if she sees her brother playing while she’s working. One thing that’s helped her focus better is a Weighted Compression Vest from Harkla.
Harkla Weighted Compression Vest
This innovative Weighted Vest comes from a company that’s already familiar with how well weighted products work. You may remember my review of their Weighted Blankets for Children, which our kids still use and love. While weighted products are generally developed for kids with sensory overload, ADHD, or autism, I’ve found that they can be beneficial for all children!
Our six year old daughter is wearing a size medium and it fits very well. The vest is adjustable using velcro and has pockets for adding your weights. The vest is made of soft neoprene and breathable mesh so it can be worn comfortably without getting too hot. Our daughter really likes the feeling of compression that the vest offers, and says it helps her focus on what she’s doing instead of being distracted by noises and movement in the room.
The Harkla Weighted Vest offers deep pressure sensory stimuli. The science behind this is that it offers pressure on points that help children feel grounded and in control. It can help with focus and allow them to get a break if they’re feeling overloaded. It’s offered in three different sizes and can be used from age two up!
While this vest is great for the classroom, it can also be used on car or plane rides to help your child if they’re a sensory seeker. I can see how it could help with anxiety also, at doctor’s visits and more. Our daughter has (so far) just used her vest during school, but I can tell that it makes a difference in how she approaches things. She seems to get less distracted and doesn’t get as frustrated when she can’t accomplish something correctly the first time. I think it’s an invaluable tool!

Hi there! I’m Amber, a 34 year old wife and mom of two from central Minnesota. I love to be outside with my family anywhere the weather is warm (which means I spend half the year freezing). We’re a homeschooling family that loves to travel as often as possible! When I have a spare free moment, I love to read, take photos, and scrapbook. I’m interested in anything that makes life more fun; I also love socializing and sharing about my favorite products!

That’s an interesting concept for getting kids to concentrate. Glad it works for your daughter.
This vest looks great and I’ve been thinking about getting something like this for our son! Thanks for sharing.
