Pakt one bag

For a few years now, each time Ryan and I (or either of us individually) have spent the night away from home, we’ve realized we need some sort of overnight bag. We had a large suitcase but that’s just way more than is needed in order to spend the night or weekend at a friend’s house, for example. Plus this past Spring I was able to be a chaperone for my little sister’s high school choir trip to New York City and wished I had a better bag option.

So, I was excited to discover the Pakt One Bag because I thought it would be dual purpose for us. I thought we could use it as an overnight bag when staying more locally, or one of us could use it as a travel bag when we travel further away.

This bag is very sturdy, I was aware of its quality from the first touch. It can be carried like a duffle bag but it’s made to carry-on specifications so you can use it for travel. There are so many compartments to this bag! I decided to gather three days worth of Ryan’s clothing plus the gadget he’d definitely want to take with him for a weekend stay (laptop and iPad) to show you how that would pack into this bag. I used his clothing instead of mine because he wears XL men’s clothing and wears sturdier clothing than I do (I wear a lot of cotton leggings and such so my clothing packs up rather small).

There is a large zipper down the center which will allow the bag to open into two sides, with a laptop pouch right in the middle. Here is what each of the two sides look like when open and empty (the strap is the duffle style strap to add to the outside):

Each half has a mostly flat storage area, with a zippered pouch o the back wall, and with two mesh pouches at the far ends. These look sort of like miniature versions of mesh pouches you might see on a lot of school backpacks. You could store most anything small in those. I put our extra phone cords in them, for example.

Of the two big sections of this bag, one side has a mesh cover that can be zipped down. The other has a zipper for the laptop pouch to be zipped over it. However, you can unzip the side that is covered with the laptop case without unpacking your laptop if you want to access your clothing without removing your computer.

while the other has a cloth cover that actually is dual purpose, it zips down to cover one side of the contents of your bag, but it also has a zipper in it, which is designed to typical size guidelines for a laptop so this serves as a laptop sleeve that once fully zipped, will be right in the center of your bag. This way, if you fill either side with clothing then your laptop will get the added protection of being layered between your clothes! My Dell laptop fits perfectly in the laptop sleeve. I threw my laptop cord in the laptop sleeve as well, which is why it looks lumpy.

Here you can see the laptop sleeve (With laptop in it) folded over onto the mesh side, showing how you can access the contents of your bag while leaving the laptop in the case.

Here is what each side looked like once I got it packed up. This includes 3 daytime outfits, 2 sets of pajamas, a laptop, iPad, and charging cords. You’ll see the photo o the right has a little space left but not much. However, I re-packed this bag with 3 days of my clothing and was able to fit all of my clothing in a single side. So the size and materials that you use in your clothing will make a difference, for sure! Ryan would be able to make this work as a weeked trip bag by using trial/travel-sized personal care products.

Pakt extra bag

This zip-closed tote bag comes included with the bag for additional storage.

Then we have the external pouches. The front of the bag has two zip-closed pouches on the side. While these have a bit of space near the top zippers (over a inch), the lower portions of these pouches are extremely thin, I wasn’t able to get my hand in them very deep with the bag packed up. One is a simple basic pouch, while the other has some pockets lining the pouch.

I suspect that I won’t use these much because they are so narrow when the bag is full.

(Pictured above). The other side of the bag on the outside has a pouch that is really thin but could fit paperwork or something similar. On the external side of this pouch there is a zipper, revealing an additional pouch. If you reach into that pouch you can pull out a mesh bag that can be used to store your phone and when flipped out, this bag can go through security without you having to separate your devices into a bin.

Pakt loop hook for storage

The last external organizer is this loop (pictured above). This can be used with a carabiner to attach a water bottle, with baby “links” to attach a toy, basically, anything that can attach to a carabiner, pacifier clip or link could be attached there.

The bottom of this bag have ‘feet’ and extra padding to keep it sturdy on the bottom.

In addition to this simply being a great bag, it’s a great company. Pakt makes bags that are sustainably sourced. They don’t use any plastic in their packaging or shipping.

Overall we really like the bag. We’ll definitely be using it for overnight stays and travel in the future.
