Thanks so much to Celebrations in the Kitchen for sending me these adorable cookie decorating kits. As always, all opinions are my own.
So, how is your family doing during this crazy time? We’re doing pretty well overall; my husband is considered essential so he’s still employed right now, and since I homeschool our day-to-day hasn’t changed too drastically. Of course we miss seeing friends and family, but it’s getting a little warmer outside so we’ve been able to play in the yard and chat with people online. One thing we’re really sad about missing is our family Easter gathering. Every year we go to my parents and color eggs, have a big egg hunt, and enjoy a big meal together. This year will look a little different, but I still wanted to create some fun activities that the kids can remember when they think back on this time.
Luckily for me, I just heard about the best little family business that sells freshly-baked cookie decorating kits! Celebrations in the Kitchen started in New York in 1993 as a bakery and in 1997 they started offering children’s baking parties. They love to help teach kids how to bake and decorate! As you can imagine, they had to close that portion of their business in early March because of Coronavirus, and it’s more important than ever to support small businesses like these. Luckily they’ve been able to adapt and are currently able to ship Cookie Decorating Kits and other baking kits nationwide!
They offer a large variety of Cookie Decorating Kits including the following:
- Easter Kit
- Mother’s Day Kit
- Springtime Kit
- Princess Kit
- Bake Shop Kit
- Sports Kit
- Unicorn Kit
- Dinosaur Kit
- Marine Animals Kit
- Cookies-on-a-Stick Kit
- Favorite Pets Kit
- Transportation Kit
- Birthday Kit
Each Cookie Decorating Kit comes with 12 (or 13) freshly baked cookies, icing, and a fun variety of colorful toppings! These kits make decorating cookies with your kids SO simple. I’ll admit, I don’t bake sugar cookies with my kids often. First off, it’s a long process! You have to make the dough, then let it chill, then roll it out and cut out the cookies, then bake them, wait for them to cool, and FINALLY it’s time to decorate. On top of that, you have to make the icing, color it, and put it in piping bags. After all that, there’s still the dishes. With these kits from Celebrations in the Kitchen, you just pull everything out of the box and get to the fun part right away!
I let the kids pick out their favorite kits from the site, and they went with the Unicorn Kit and the Easter Kit. Lincoln was most excited about decorating the carrot cookie, ha! The kits came quickly and were packaged so well; all of the cookies and decorations made it in one piece and were wrapped in mini cardboard boxes to keep things organized. All I had to do was snip the ends off the icing bags and we could get started!
The icing bags are perfectly sized for small hands and both kids got right to work. I should mention, Celebrations in the Kitchen is a completely nut-free facility and everything in their cookie kits is nut-free and dairy-free, in case you have allergies in your family! Each kit also comes with a variety of cookie shapes, so you can really get creative with your decorating.
If you’re like Lincoln, you’ll spend half the time decorating and half the time sucking on the icing tubes, but that’s the fun, right?! In the Easter Kit, some of the cookie shapes included were carrots, chicks, bunnies, and eggs! In Harper’s Unicorn Kit we found a couple different unicorns, rainbows, and hearts. All of the cookies are baked to perfection and the icing is a great consistency.
Our kids are four and six, and it was so fun to see their creativity come to life as they decorated their cookies. I’ll be honest; my husband and I got in on the decorating too, and it was a relaxing afternoon for all of us. Right now, it kind of feels like the world is spinning out of our control but one thing we can control is peace within our own homes. Doing activities like this together helps ground us, and makes the best memories for our kids!
We had leftover icing and decorations once all our cookies were decorated, and we used (and ate!) a LOT so you don’t have to worry about running out. Celebrations in the Kitchen has the whole kit down to a science and they include everything you’ll need to have a wonderful cookie decorating experience. Look at all the fun creations we made!
The vibrant colors and adorable shapes are so springy and festive. They get me so excited for Easter, even though it’s going to look a lot different this year than it usually does. Our kids are already begging to decorate more cookie masterpieces, and I know we’ll be buying more kits from Celebrations in the Kitchen because they made the experience so fun and seamless! Plus, they’re very affordable.
Now for the big question; how do they taste? These are the BEST sugar cookies I’ve ever had, no joke! The icing is just sweet enough and the cookies are soft and moist. You can tell they’re freshly baked, and we all had to eat a couple right after we got done decorating! These Cookie Decorating Kits are a great way to pass the time during the “Stay Home” orders, and they would make perfect gifts, too. I’ve already got a list of people I want to send kits to for some family fun!
On top of these amazing Cookie Decorating Kits, Celebrations in the Kitchen offers other baking kits too! They currently have Rainbow, Vanilla, and Mother’s Day Cupcake Baking sets available, and will be adding baking from scratch cupcake projects to their shop page in the coming weeks. They’ll also have instructional videos to lend a hand with those! Sugar Cookie Dough, a Cookie Dough Baking Kit, a Rainbow Explosion Cake Decorating Kit, and a Rainbow Cookie Dough Set are some of the other options available for purchase.
The Rainbow Cookie Dough Set sounds like SO much fun. It comes with six separately packaged colors of cookie dough that can be refrigerated or frozen for later use. Like the sugar cookies, this dough is dairy-free and nut-free and very easy to use. Kids (or adults!) can roll and shape small pieces of dough to make hand-shaped rainbow cookies!
With Easter right around the corner, and most families home together for the foreseeable future, now is a great time to order from Celebrations in the Kitchen and get your creativity on! Head to their site to pick out your favorite cookie or cupcake sets to ship right to your door, and make sure you follow them on Facebook and Instagram too. It’s so important to support small family businesses during this global crisis!
As an added bonus, if you put “Rainbow Dough” in the notes section of your order, they will include a FREE batch of rainbow dough, just for Emily Reviews readers!
I hope you have a happy Easter and can enjoy some fun, memory-making activities with your kids during this crazy time.
Hi there! I’m Amber, a 34 year old wife and mom of two from central Minnesota. I love to be outside with my family anywhere the weather is warm (which means I spend half the year freezing). We’re a homeschooling family that loves to travel as often as possible! When I have a spare free moment, I love to read, take photos, and scrapbook. I’m interested in anything that makes life more fun; I also love socializing and sharing about my favorite products!

This is such a great idea! Our local bakery did a similar thing this year. They didn’t do any many of the decorations though.

What a great idea for kids! I love letting them be creative and express themselves. The best part is EATING, of course!

These cookies turned out so beautifully. What a fun activity for all ages. The dinosaur kit and the marine animal kit would be on my list for sure.

My great niece is almost 4 and she loves to be in the kitchen helping to cook/bake. I might just have to get this for her

I’m sure she would love it, Gloria! It’s such a fun way for kids to get involved in the kitchen and I was just amazed at my kids’ creativity 🙂

I identify with your son, lol. I eat all the icing whenever I make cookies, cakes, etc. It’s my weakness. These kits would be a lot of fun.
