Thanks to Workman Publishing for sending me these great calendars. As always, all opinions are my own.
As we head into the holiday season, I have a long list of people to find gifts for and their interests vary all over the place. Since I’m trying to make gift-giving a little simpler and more personalized this year, I decided to turn to Workman Publishing and their 2021 line-up of calendars! This year they have 121 titles across all formats, including wall calendars, desktop calendars, page-a-day calendars, and more. I wanted to share some of my favorites with you and why I chose them for my family members this year.
I’ll start out with the mind section because who doesn’t love to work their brain a little each day?! My family is full of trivia fans and Workman Publishing offers a variety of “thinking” calendars. I personally love the 365 Day or daily calendars; it’s so fun to see what comes up each morning!
My new sister-in-law is really into dogs (she and my brother have two corgis) so I thought A Year of Dog Trivia Calendar would be a great option for her. With this calendar you can learn all about dogs, from breed to history, quotes about dogs and why they’re “man’s best friend”. This calendar is one of Workman’s page-a-day products which have just been updated to make them more eco-friendly. They’ve replaced the plastic backer with a sturdy cardboard stand and are now printed on FSC-certified paper which makes the calendars 100% recyclable!
My new brother-in-law (as of last month!) will be receiving Workman’s Mensa 365 Brain Puzzlers Calendar this year. I find men in my life to be harder to shop for, but we all know they can spend a lot of time in the bathroom and what better way to pass the time than with brain puzzlers! These puzzles are smart, addictive, and great for challenging your brain.
My brother is really into trivia and I know he’s missing out on the group trivia nights with friends right now. With the 365 Days of Amazing Trivia Calendar, he can work on his knowledge from home each day! This calendar is great for pub-quiz regulars or just lovers of general knowledge trivia. From science to sports to sci-fi, every day will bring a fun new tidbit of information to store away in your brain!
My dad loves doing crossword puzzles so I knew The New York Times Daily Crosswords Calendar would be perfect for him. When I was growing up, we’d sit around the living room with the Sunday paper and try to complete the crossword together. We weren’t always the greatest at it, but I’m hoping that it will bring up some great memories for my dad as he challenges himself with these crosswords daily in 2021.
This next calendar is actually a bit of a gift for myself; I love seeing stunning nature photographs, and the Audubon Nature Gallery Calendar caught my eye as I was picking out my favorites. In this calendar you’ll find flora, fauna, and phenomena from all corners of Earth, exquisitely captured by the world’s best nature photographers. It’s nature at its most pristine and inspiring—and a fantastic gift for wildlife lovers. I can’t wait to start using this calendar; I need to be patient until the new year!
Along similar lines, the Audubon Birds Calendar will make a wonderful gift for anyone on your list who enjoys bird-watching. Growing up, my mom always used to tell us about the birds we’d see in our yard and while traveling. I thought this calendar would be great for her to explore birds outside Minnesota and the National Audubon Society avian authorities back this calendar!
I consider myself to be an avid reader, but I’d venture to say that my sister has ready double, if not triple, the amount of books in her life. If I’m an avid reader, she’s voracious, and it’s hard to find a story she hasn’t finished. I thought the 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die Calendar may inspire her to read more books outside her typical genres, and she could find some gems she may not have otherwise. This calendar is also filled with literary quizzes, quotes, and striking first sentences to interest you!
As long as I’ve known him, my husband has enjoyed origami. I remember on one of our first dates, he folded the restaurant’s paper napkin ring into a tiny toad and we launched it back and forth until our food came. Since then, he’s made origami flowers for me and has taught our kids a few other creatures he’s learned. This 2021 Page-a-Day Origami Calendar is going to be a great gift because it comes with vibrant paper and instructions for folding so many different designs!
The final product I received from Workman Publishing is this incredible Story of Christmas Book Set and Advent Calendar! Our kids love Advent Calendars and this year I’ve hit the jackpot. Each day from December 1st through Christmas Eve you can open a book (just like the peek-a-boo window on an Advent calendar) and then hang it on the Christmas tree by its gold thread loop. Read in sequence, the tiny books tell the magical story of the first Christmas, from Gabriel’s visit to Mary to the Three Wise Men gazing at the star to Jesus’ birth.
The books are miniscule and break up the story of Christmas in such a fun way for kids. Plus, I love that we can hang each story on the Christmas tree as we open them; then the kids can visit them daily to read parts of the Advent story. This calendar is reusable each year also, and it would make a great gift for any family!
I can’t wait to hand out these calendars on Christmas Day. Not only do they make great gifts, they could also be stocking stuffers because they’re affordable and the page-a-day options are the perfect size.

Hi there! I’m Amber, a 34 year old wife and mom of two from central Minnesota. I love to be outside with my family anywhere the weather is warm (which means I spend half the year freezing). We’re a homeschooling family that loves to travel as often as possible! When I have a spare free moment, I love to read, take photos, and scrapbook. I’m interested in anything that makes life more fun; I also love socializing and sharing about my favorite products!
