I was sent books from Nat Geo for kids, in exchange for including them in my gift guide. All opinions are my own.

I studied early childhood education for a couple years in college. While I wound up changing paths with my career choice, I still love kids and have a big interest in child development. I’m a big believer that kids learn best through play. Of course, reading is wonderful when kids enjoy it, but I think it’s important to try to keep it an enjoyable experience for kids. I know that I am not alone in being someone who lost my love of reading after school required me to read books that I didn’t enjoy reading.

For that reason. I love books that kids will find cool or exciting. I’ve learned that for many kids, books that can be scanned or flipped through can be more enjoyable than books that you have to read cover to cover. I think for some kids, this style of book is just less intimidating for them than a book that has to be read page to page. These are a lot of the reasons why I love National Geographic Kids Books. Many of them are filled with fascinating information on each page, but they don’t necessarily have to be read cover to cover. You can flip through and stop to read the portions that interest you without needing context from previous pages. They have some really cool images that pull kids in, too. I have a few specific Nat Geo books to highlight as gift ideas this holiday season.

The coolest stuff on earth nat geo

The Coolest Stuff On Earth is a book newly released last month. This is aimed at kids ages 8-12, and I can see this appealing to boys or girls who like nature. It includes some really neat information that will pull curious kids in. For example, did you know that dogs can shake off a pound of water in less than a second? This book has 192 bright colored pages and will make a great gift.

Why? 1,111 answers to everything

Why? Is a book that answers 1,111 “why” questions that will fascinate kids! I remember having a similar book to this as a kid given to me as a joke because I asked so many questions. I really enjoyed the book though! Instead of using it to look up my ‘why’ questions, I just loved flipping through it to see questions. It answered many ‘why’ questions that I had never thought to ask, but I still found the answers fascinating. This one is also for kids 8-12.

This almanac is big at 352 pages! It’s also for the 8-12 age group. The 2021 almanac shares amazing animal stories, explorer profiles, incredible inventions, awesome games and more. This is the #1 selling kids almanac on the planet, and for good reason! It’s packed full of fascinating information that kids will enjoy.

little kids big book of why

The little kids first big book of why is similar the other ‘why’ book, but for the 4-7 age range. With lots of great photos, simple recipes, hands on games and fun activities, this book will be a fun resource for younger children.

nerdlet animals

This is a small book for older kids (8-12). Covering fascinating animal topics like animal superheroes, what’s the deal with crocodile tears? weird and cool animal facts, and insight from people who get to live near animals for a living. If you have a young animal lover in your life, this would make a great gift!

little kids first ocean board book

Last but not least, one for the really little ones! This is a board book for the preschool crowd. It features gorgeous photos of dolphins, whales shark, clownfish, octopuses and other sea animals. This is a great way to introduce your babies or toddlers to animal life, and the book features age appropriate facts about sealife.

Win it: One lucky winner will get a set of the 6 Nat Geo books featured in this post! Giveaway is open to the US and will end 12/23/2020.
