1)  Pack Snacks

We all know how cranky WE can get as adults when we’re hungry so expect the same with kids!  Hangry children are no fun anywhere, but especially not when stuck in a vehicle, plane, or train while traveling.  So pack those snacks!  Whether it’s sandwiches and veggies or if you’re super creative and want to pack a bento box smorgasbord, keeping the kids fed can help tremendously.

2)  Plan For Stops & Burning Off Energy

Four summers ago, we road-tripped from Minnesota to Kentucky to visit the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum as well as visit some good friends.  It was a lot of time in the car but we had SO MUCH FUN!  While we drove through the night on the way down so the kids would sleep the majority of the 13+ hours, we decided to try something different for the way home.  (Driving through the night left both my husband and I exhausted as we were switching on and off every hour to try to each get a little sleep.)  On the way home, we left at noon and planned some stops on the way!  

We would get out for bathroom breaks, obviously, but we also made sure to hit up a couple parks, rest areas, and ice cream shops on that drive home.  It made for a much more enjoyable experience!
