voxelab aquila 3d printer

Voxelab sent me their aquila DIY FDM 3d printer for inclusion in my gift guide. All opinions are my own.

Ryan and I have been together 14 years now. I still find him hard to shop for! Thankfully, he’s not someone who cares about being surprised so he’s happy to just let me know what he wants. He’s a really simple guy who isn’t much of a consumer. He tends to just want things he’ll really use, and doesn’t usually care to replace things unless they broke beyond repair. This is good for our finances and for the earth – but it makes it tricky to buy things for him!

When I asked him if he had any ideas for what he’d like for Christmas this year, a 3D printer was at the top of his wish list. I personally wasn’t familiar with what 3D printers really can do, at first. Once he explained them to me a little bit, it completely made sense to me that he’d want one. He’s into programming and finds engineering interesting, too. If you know someone who likes to code on their computer, who likes to understand how machines or other items work, and who is creative…odds are, they’ll have a hay day with a 3D printers.

3D printers are a pretty open-ended tool. 3D printers make 3D objects using information from a digital file. What you can make with a 3D printer can range really widely. You could make small toy figurines, game pieces, a flower vase, a cord organizer, a phone holder, a soap dish, molds for making items out of other materials and more.

The Voxelab Aquila DIY FDM 3D Printer is a popular choice of 3D printers in the $150-ish range. The main reason this is such a popular printer at this price point is because of the printing volume it can handle. It has a printing volume of 220x220x250mm (that’s 8.66×8.66×9.8 inches) is larger than most printers in this price range…and that matters because it determines the size of items you’re able to create! So if you want to gift an affordable 3D printer that won’t limit the size of items your loved one can make too much, the Voxelab Aquila is a great choice.

The Voxelab Aquila has a high-standard v-guide rail which allows for stable movements, less noise and wear resistance which means a longer lifespan.

It has a removable glass platform. It’s easy to remove your piece after it has cooled. When printing, it has a strong adhesion so it won’t cause warping.

It has a resume printing feature, so if the filament breaks, it won’t start printing from scratch. You can start back off where you left off, reducing waste.

I’d recommend buying the recipient some filament as well. It does come with a little bit of filament but very little so they’ll want more. If they don’t already own them, you may want to buy them pliers and filament cutters as well.

The Voxelab Aquila has been reviewed over 580 times on Amazon and has an overall rating of 4.5 stars – I think that speaks to how nice of a printer this is!

While a 3D printer will be a really fun hobby for many, it can also be a really practical skill and an educational experience! You can custom design products and make them yourself rather than buying them in stores. It can involve programming/coding, design, engineering and more. I think this could make a gift for teenagers if they have a natural interest in these types of subjects.
