I was sent an EcoQube for review. All opinions are my own.
Do you use the 1st of the new year to remind yourself to check the batteries in your smoke detector? I know some people use the new year as a way of remembering to check. These days, most of us have come to see smoke detectors and c02 detectors as just a default product that every home should have, for safety reasons.
What about radon detectors? They certainly aren’t as common.
Honestly, until very recently I didn’t know what radon was. Radon is a chemical element that is radioactive and it is colorless, odorless and tasteless. Meaning, you wouldn’t know if you had high radon levels in your home because you can’t see it or smell it. It naturally occurs in the environment. When uranium in soil, rock and water breaks down and gets into the air that we breathe.
How dangerous is it? Radon exposure is the second-leading cause of lung cancer. So, we really don’t want high radon levels in our homes. Because radon can’t be seen or smelled, the only way to find out if your home has high radon levels is to test.
The EcoQube is a radon detector that gives you your first reading after just 10 minutes. Other types of radon testing can take days! The result that you get from the EcoQube after 60 minutes is highly reliable (70%). The EcoQube can connect to your home wifi so you can get results delivered to your smartphone. Plus, it’s more sensitive than other tests – 15 TIMES more sensitive than the minimum standard set by ANSI/AARST.
You can enable a notification through the app that will cause a beep every 10 minutes if the EcoQube detects radon levels that are higher than recommended. The unit is really small.
I found this really easy to set up, and we got results really quickly. We didn’t have elevated levels of radon, which is what I expected, but it’s nice to have the peace of mind of knowing there isn’t a concern!

Wow, how scary is this?! I had no idea what radon was until recently too. It is crazy to think of how many things that we all may have been breathing or ingesting our whole lives that cause cancer, and we didn’t even know it. I definitely need to get one of these detectors.

Radon often comes when a house is sitting on bad earth. I like how compact this sensor is.

I forgot about radon testing. We always test for carbon dioxide…. we need to test for radon also.

I was not aware of the dangers of radon and that there was such an easy and reliable way to test for it.
Someone in my friend’s family died of lung cancer and they suspected radon. This item is a must have for every household.
