Hilife sent me products for review. There are affiliate links in this post. All opinions are my own.
I didn’t learn how to use a clothing iron until just a couple of years ago. My family is blue collar, so we never really had much need to iron clothing. If something got particularly wrinkled, we’d toss it in the dryer with a wet washcloth to steam the wrinkles out. Of course, knowing how to iron or steam clothing is more efficient than using a dryer, which is why I eventually taught myself.
The clothing steamer that Hilife sent me is rather simple to use. It comes with a measuring cup with a small spout on it, so you can easily get water into the steamer without making a mess. The side of the steamer is see-through and has a max-fill line so you can make sure you don’t over-fill it.
The top simply twists on and snaps into place. There is a simple on/off switch. It takes about two minutes for the steamer to reach full temperature. You’ll be able to see and hear the water bubbling when it gets hot, and of course, steam will start coming out the little holes on top.
The handle makes the steamer easy to move around. The cord is 9 foot long which I found to be sufficient, I didn’t find my movements limied by the cord. It’s pretty lightweight so I found it easy to use.
I didn’t use this to steam clothing, but instead to get steam into my hair as a way of refreshing my naturally wavy hair. This is not a recommended use by Hilife, but it’s a fairly common practice among people with wavy and curly hair, as steam is often helpful for textured hair. I found it easy to move the steamer around all sides of my hair without an issue.
This steamer is a best-seller on Amazon, and I can see why. It’s simple, but well made and effective.
The second product that I was sent from Hilife was their portable space heater.
When we moved in September, it wasn’t cold enough yet to use the heat. We noticed that the furnace vents came out of the ceiling rather than the floors. Neither of us had ever lived somewhere where the registers were in the ceiling, so we did think that was a bit odd. Neither of us really thought it would matter, though.
We’ve found that the vents being in the ceilings makes a difference in two ways. One, the heat hits us in the face as we sleep. Our bedroom is small, so there’s only reasonable way to position our two dressers and our bed. However, when the bed is where it’s at, this leaves two heat vents above us while we sleep. So, we wake up feeling like our nose, eyes, etc are all super dry every morning. If the heat kicks on while we’re trying to sleep, it can be uncomfortable to just feel the hot air hitting you in the face.
The other way it makes an impact, is the floor temperature. In the past, I would have said that every place I’ve lived has had somewhat chilly floors in the winter. It’s just natural for the floors to be cooler than the air. At this house, the floors are FREEZING. I suppose this is a result of how heat rises…so when heat comes out of the ceiling, it is forced down aways by the force of the furnace blower, but then the heat drifts back up – so the heat never gets down to the floor level.
The floors are cold enough that Ryan and I both find ourselves not waiting to leave our feet on the ground. I sit with my legs crossed while sitting on the couch, for example. Ryan spends several hours a day sitting at his computer desk, working. He can’t really help but leave his feet down while working…yet doing so keeps his feet very cold. This is why we wanted the space heater.
Ryan has used this Hilife space heater to keep his feet warmer while working. It works really well! He simply plugs it in and his the on button. There is some temperature adjustment buttons, but we’ve just been turning it on or off as wanted. It has safety features built in, so it automatically shuts off if it is tipped over. IF you pick it up and over it, it will basically ‘pause’ and stop producing heat until you hit the on button again.

I have never heard of using a steamer for curly hair, how cool! My daughter has curly hair but mine is super straight, so I have no idea how to deal with it. This seems like a really cool little steamer; I like that the cord is so long. The space heater you got is really awesome too, I like the compact size and it seems safer than a lot.

I’ve used a steamer before on my clothes for a concert. I just hang the garment on the shower curtain rod. I can see where a heater would help in your house.

I sure could use a clothing steamer.

I really like the sound of the heater. I could use something for my feet as well. I will check it out.

I got rid of my iron and ironing boards YEARS ago!! I have steamer and love it for the times you need clothes that are not wrinkled. This looks like a nice heater I have never needed one in all the years that I have had this apartment. But this winter is so cold I just feel like I can never warm.

You found such a good solution for your heating issue and cold floors. Having a portable space heater like this really can provide the heat needed at different times and places. What a helpful product.
That is a nifty space heater I have to check out. We are shopping for one for our bedroom.
