Everyone knows somebody in their life that’s absolutely obsessed with boats, but when their birthday (or really any other reason to give gifts) comes around, it’s often hard to know what to get them. After all, not many of us have millions of dollars to go out and buy a brand new sportfishing boat, so it’s important to make sure that you’re spending your money wisely (and not on some chintzy decoration that’ll get thrown away right after they get it). So we’ve compiled a handful of gifts at a number of different prices for you to give to that person in your life who can’t stay away from their boats.

Custom CaptainCustom Boat Apparel

There’s really no gift that shows your appreciation better than something personal, and for a boat lover, having a custom piece of artwork of their boat is truly special.

At The Custom Captain, you can send in a picture of their boat, and you’ll get a stylized piece of art back of the boat with a logo as well.

If that’s not enough, there is a ton of apparel, from hats, to shirts, to flags, and even mugs and tumblers that you can custom make with the boat you want on it. All that for a very affordable price of around $70 for the art.

Fish Finder – $300 – $2500+

I know, I know, we just mentioned that not everyone has tons of money to spend on a gift, and some fish finders can get really pricey. But if you have someone who has a boat and loves to fish from it, it’s hard to argue with just how useful a fish finder can be on the water. They have some pretty sophisticated technology that essentially can tell where fish are beneath you and how far down they are. Fortunately, they have a pretty broad price range and you can definitely get away with spending only a few hundred dollars to get a really good product (we wouldn’t recommend going below that though, they start to become a lot less useful below that). The one pictured is the Garmin Striker Plus 5cv, which is around $320 and makes fishing a whole lot more enjoyable, especially out in the ocean.

Engine Upgrades – Varies

Engine upgrades can get very complicated and expensive really fast, and we’re sure many of you aren’t particularly interested in the specifics. But generally speaking, upgrading your boat’s engine will allow it to produce more power and go faster, which for many is a lot of fun. It’s
important to do a lot of research on your specific engine, such as what parts to buy, and in many cases, where to get it worked on. For those who know a lot about boats, it’s definitely a good option if you’re interested, but if you’re less technical and knowledgeable, it may be worth skipping this one (or just letting the boat enthusiast do it themselves!).

Boat Care Kit- $30 – $100

On the other end of the spectrum is just a simple boat cleaning kit. They usually come in a kit with a load of sponges, cleaners, and other useful products for keeping the boat clean. After all, it’s often hard to keep a boat clean consistently, so having a kit on the boat somewhere can help keep the boat well maintained and nicer to be on. They can get dirt, blood from fish, and even just gunk from whatever stuff is in the water you’re in. The product pictured is the Meguiar’s New Boat Owner’s Essentials Box Kit, which comes with the basics for keeping the boat clean for around $40, and if you or your recipient is more meticulous about the boat’s condition, there are a load of more products that are more focused.

Bait Kit $25+

If the person who needs a gift is an avid fisher, it’s hard to go wrong with a simple bait kit. Anglers are constantly using and losing their lures when fishing, so extras are always appreciated. Obviously, baits and lures vary greatly depending on what is being fished for, so a little background research is necessary. That said, this certainly doesn’t break the bank, as a pretty well equipped kit comes in at only around $25-30, and you can spend more if necessary.
