Do you have any holiday traditions?  Each Christmas season, our family has several.  The first one starts on Black Friday.  No, we don’t go shopping!  Instead, we go to a local tree farm and cut down our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving.  It’s loads of fun!  We all bundle up, scout out the best tree, and the boys take turns sawing until it comes down.  Then we load it up into our truck and head home to set it up.  This tradition started about five years ago and it’s a day we all look forward to each year.  The kids are already asking how much longer!

Another tradition we started a few years ago is doing some Advent Calendars.  We typically do a few: each of the kids gets a ‘chocolate Advent calendar’ and then we also do a couple fun ones with inedible.  One of our favorites is LEGO as the entire family is obsessed with LEGOs!

What’s An Advent Calendar?

An Advent calendar is a very special calendar used to countdown to December 25: the celebration of the birth of Jesus.  Traditional calendars are rectangular cards or boxes you can hang on the wall or sit on a table with small sealed doors or windows meant to be opened in order on each day of Advent.  You start on December 1st and each day, you open a flap or box; depending on what type of Advent calendar you have.

LEGO has some great options including their: LEGO City Advent Calendar & LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar

So now that you know what an Advent calendar is, now I want to introduce you to two fun options from LEGO.  The first one is the LEGO City Advent Calendar.

This Advent Calendar features a variety of gifts behind each closed door including things like LEGO® City Adventures TV series characters Billy, Maddy, Mr. Produce, Tippy and Raze, plus a Santa minifigure, and more!  Kids will love getting to open the door and see who (or what) is behind it each day!

Another favorite is their LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar.  Kids will enjoy how the first 3 toys make a scene from the first movie, the next 3 days make a scene from the second movie – and so on.  Plus, there’s a bonus game involved too!  So this is an advent calendar that will keep on bringing enjoyment for months to come.

Tell me, have you ever gotten an Advent Calendar for your family?

I love surprising my kiddos with Advent calendars! We love Legos at our house too. In past years, we have done a lot of these. My favorite has always been the Lego City calendars!

That is great tradition to have. My brother lives next to a tree farm, best friends. And no one in our families has a live tree. My great niece is 6 this year and last year I bought her a Chocolate advent calendar. She loved it. So this year I bought two and said she could open 1 in the morning and if she was good all day she could open one off the other calendar……………. she loves chocolate.
These lego ‘s look interesting I might have to get them for her.

I like the non-shopping tradition for Black Friday. We make turkey soup and homemade bread the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Advent Calendar with Legos is a neat idea.

  • Leela

    My kids would love these.
