Aventon Pace 500.3 Ebike Review

A couple summers ago, we were introduced to Aventon brand.  Our son was at the neighbors and all the boys were checking out their brand new Aventon Ebike and the rest, as they say, is history.  We were sold!

First off, let’s clear up a few misconceptions before the full review.

+ The Difference Between Ebikes And Pedal Assist Bikes

What Is An Ebike?

Electric bicycles are designed to help their riders go farther and faster than you would on a traditional bicycle. While most models look like a regular bike, e-bikes are unique in that they feature a motor and battery. This helps you easily manage hills, travel longer distances without getting tired, keep up with the flow of traffic, and even pull a small trailer.  Ebikes are becoming increasingly popular and it’s easy to see why.  They make biking fun for EVERYONE, no matter what your skill level is!

Is There A Difference Between An Electric Bike And A Pedal Assist Bike?

In short, YES.  There is definitely a difference between an Ebike and a pedal assist bike.  Simply put, pedal assist is an operating mode on your bike that engages the motor to deliver power to help each of your pedals go easier, faster, and further. Electric bicycles with pedal-assist features do not require a throttle to control the motor.  So a pedal assist still requires you to be pedaling at all times but an ebike offers you the option of moving without pedaling if you need a break.

My Aventon Pace 500.3 Ebike Review

The Aventon Pace 500.3 Ebike is a true ebike.  You know it’s a good bike when they come out with a 3rd generation and we are super impressed with this Aventon bike.  It comes in both a step-over frame option as well as step-through frame option.

We went for a bike ride last week with our new Aventon Pace 500.3 Ebike and I haven’t had this much fun in a long time.  I was able to zoom around so fast with this bike.  Everyone in the family was vying for a turn and there’s now talk about saving up because we all want one now!

Features We Love:

  • This bike can go up to 28 miles per hour!  (While I didn’t go this fast myself, by choice, I was amazed at the speed this bike provides.)
  • The backlit LCD display keeps you up to date on metrics including speed, battery life, and pedal assist level.  It also lets me charge my phone with the concealed USB port.  (This display is super easy to use and read, which is something I definitely appreciate.)

  • A new torque sensor helps to recognize pedaling efforts and match them to amplify your natural momentum and conserve battery life.  (The ride flow is definitely amazing!)

+ The Difference Between Ebikes And Pedal Assist Bikes

  • An upright cruiser frame and cushioned saddle offers rider comfort and the best ride-ability.  The adjustable stem allows you to raise or lower the handle bars which also helps insure each individual rider has the perfect fit.  (I’ve owned several bikes over the years and this one is, by far, the most comfortable.  My back didn’t ache at all after our ride!)

  • Something that I find super cool is the integrated lights and rider turn-signal!  I’m all for safe biking and these lights help ensure riders are seen more easily.  (I love this feature!  I truly hope more bike manufacturers start to incorporate as it’s a great safety feature.)

  • This bike features a powerful 500w rear hub motor coupled with fast charging.
  • Riders can choose between throttle as well as 4 levels of pedal assist: eco, tour, sport, and turbo.  (The variety of speed levels is really handy.  It makes riding on all terrains a cinch.)
  • Go up to 60 miles per charge.
  • The puncture resistant tires are especially beneficial as nobody wants to be stranded with a flat.  Plus, the sidewalls are reflective for added visibility.

+ The Difference Between Ebikes And Pedal Assist Bikes

We are not serious bikers.  Our family enjoys leisurely riding around, hitting the local trail, and biking the kids up to the local park.  With that said, because we don’t bike a ton, we tire out quicker than we’d like.  Having an Aventon Ebike makes biking a much more enjoyable experience for us!  We are now able to be out longer, go farther, and enjoy the biking experience more.  While I appreciate the throttle mode, we do try to keep it in pedal assist for the most part to get the benefit of exercise too.

This is a sharp looking bike with some great features. We enjoy biking in the summer but haven’t heard much about electric bikes. Thanks for the review!

Ebikes are becoming increasingly popular around here for leisure and for commuting. I was unaware that there was also pedal assist bikes.
