It’s been a very rainy summer in Minnesota so far, but it looks like it may begin to heat up next week! While our kids are incredibly excited about using the inflatable water slide, swimming at the beach with friends, and frequenting the local splash pads, I’ve been thinking about how to keep our bedroom cool at night. Luckily, I recently heard about Newair’s Portable Air Conditioners and Heaters, and I found one that will be perfect for us!
Newair Portable Air Conditioner and Heater – SKU AC-14100H
We live in a century-old farmhouse and our bedroom is upstairs with a west-facing window. That means that the sun comes into our room for the final few hours of the day and the temperature is about 10 degrees higher than it is in the rest of the house during the summer. Conversely, in the winter, it’s always cooler than the rest of the house! Our best option, aside from blowing in insulation (which seems silly since the rest of our house keeps a moderate temperature), is to use a portable air conditioner/heater for those really hot and really cold days.
Newair has a variety of these appliances, but recently I tried out the Newair Portable Air Conditioner and Heater and it has been INCREDIBLE. Set up was a breeze; like other portable air conditioners, it comes with a window venting kit and hose that can be adjusted to fit a variety of window sizes. Then it’s just a matter of plugging the machine in!
As you can see, there are a variety of options on this air conditioner/heater. Controlling the speed of the fan, the temperature, and even the time of day you want it to run is made simple with the touch pad on top. There is also a remote control that comes with this unit, to make running it so convenient! I can adjust the temperature of our room from my spot in the bed which is a great perk while watching our favorite shows or reading a story as a family.
It’s actually amazing how quickly this portable air conditioner cools down a room. When we tried it out for the first time, the panel read that it was 78 degrees Fahrenheit in our bedroom. After just two minutes cooling on high, our room was down to a comfortable 70 degrees. The machine does run loudly while on high, but it’s worth having comfort when we’re trying to go to sleep at night. Once the temperature is brought down in the room, I usually set it to a low fan to keep the air moving.
If you’re a specifications-minded person, this is an 8,600 BTU air conditioner/heater and it maintains a comfortable temperature in rooms up to 23’x23′. Our bedroom is about 13’x15′ and it doesn’t take long to cool down at all. For the first time in a few years, I’m actually not dreading the hot summer nights because we’ll be able to cool down our room so easily.
When it comes to heating, this unit packs a punch, too. We used to rely on an electric blanket to warm up our bed at night, but now we can just turn the heater on about half an hour before we go to bed. It’s going to be so cozy and warm! This Newair Air Conditioner and Heater also dehumidifies and recycles excess moisture so you won’t have to change the drip pan often. We have run it a few times and haven’t had to empty the pan yet!
One of my favorite things about this unit is that the cord coils up into storage and it’s on wheels; when we’re not using it, we can just roll it into the closet! Also, if we were ever to have an issue with our furnace or air conditioner, we could use this temporarily for any room in the house.
I know this Newair Portable Air Conditioner/Heater is going to be a great appliance for our family!

Hi there! I’m Amber, a 34 year old wife and mom of two from central Minnesota. I love to be outside with my family anywhere the weather is warm (which means I spend half the year freezing). We’re a homeschooling family that loves to travel as often as possible! When I have a spare free moment, I love to read, take photos, and scrapbook. I’m interested in anything that makes life more fun; I also love socializing and sharing about my favorite products!

This is really nice!! I live in a senior high rise built-ed in the early 80’s. There idea of heating/cooling the bedroom was a small hole in the wall from the air/heat unit in the living room. The bedroom is never comfortable to sleep in the summer or the winter

Newair Portable Air Conditioner and Heater is something that I would like to keep in my home. We have had times where our A/C does not work well and always important to have an extra heater.

I love the 2-in-1 design of this air conditioner and heater. It’s already been getting over 100 degrees where I live and my A/C has trouble keeping the house cool. This would be super helpful!
Wow, this sounds like an incredible portable air conditioner and heater! I had no idea that there was a combo like this, that is amazing! I love that it also dehumidifies. This is thing truly does it all, and it sounds like it works really well too. I would definitely love to have one even just for emergencies.
