GlassesShop.com prescrioption sunglasses review

GlassesShop sent me two pairs of prescription sunglasses for review. All opinions are my own.

I’ve worn prescription glasses full time since I was 11 years old. I think it is the fact that I’ve always worn prescription glasses that has lead to me not using sunglasses. Regular store-bought sunglasses just don’t work for me when I need to wear my regular glasses to see! So, I’ve just always squinted when it’s too bright out.

At least, that’s what I did except for a brief period when I had prescription glasses with transition lenses. I appreciated having the protection when the sun was really bright, but sometimes they’d darken a little when I really didn’t need or want the sun protection, such as when I was sitting near a window at school. I also didn’t like how it took some time for them to transition from clear to being sunglasses, so I’d be temporarily unable to see if I had been outside while it was bright, and then tried to enter a darker building.

As I’ve gotten older though, I’ve learned more about how our eyes really need to be protected from the sun. Not just when it feels so bright that it hurts our eyes, but it’s healthy to wear sunglasses even when it’s not painfully bright out. I’ve tried wearing sunglasses over my glasses, but that’s physically awkward and uncomfortable. I realized it was time to finally get some prescription sunglasses.

Me in my sunglasses

Honestly, I don’t think I had realized how affordable they can be when you shop online at a place like GlassesShop.com. I’ve known for over a decade that I can save a lot of money on my regular glasses by shopping online instead of getting eyeglasses through my eye doctors office. For some reason, I just never priced prescription sunglasses!

Recently, GlassesShop sent me a pair of sunglasses, and another pair for Ryan in his prescription. Mine were about $30, and Ryan’s were about $35! He really likes the aviator style so he went with the Thomasville frames.  I wasn’t really sure what my sunglasses style was, but I decided to try the Muskogee frames which are a somewhat transparent pink plastic frame.

Me wearing Ryan’s sunglasses for the sake of a photo to share with you guys.

I am still adjusting to seeing how I look in sunglasses, as it’s just a new thing for me! However, I really enjoy the experience of using them while driving and while spending time outside. I like how the sunglasses protect well from the sun without totally skewing my perception of colors like some cheap sunglasses that I tried in the past.

Ryan had a similar history to me, wearing glasses from childhood and not wearing sunglasses as a result. He’s also really liked having sunglasses, especially for driving. We’re really happy with them and I think they are nicely priced!
