ZIWI cat food review

ZIWI sent me cat food products for review. All opinions are my own.

About 15 months ago I brought home an 8 week old kitten. I grew up with cats, but this was the first that I had owned as an adult. It didn’t take long at all for me to fall head over heels in love with my kitten Pepperoni. She’s officially a cat now, and has transitioned off kitten food and onto cat food.

Cats can be really picky eaters, and I read early on that one way to reduce the odds of your cat getting too picky is to frequently change up their food. As a result, I’ve always tried to serve different flavors, textures and brands of both wet and dry foods to Pepperoni. We give her wet food twice a day and leave dry food out for her all the time. This way she gets the best of both worlds. If you weren’t already aware, wet food is great for helping cats stay hydrated (cats tend to not drink as much water as they should!) and dry food is great for keeping their teeth cleaner.

We were sent both wet and dry food from ZIWI pet to try out with Pepperoni. They sent us a case of their lamb recipe cat food. They offer this in two different can sizes, we were sent the 6oz can size. We give Pepperoni about 2 oz twice a day, so each can lasted for 3 feedings. Pate seems to be Pepperoni’s least-favorite texture for wet food, but she still ate this pretty well. I love that the lamb is ethically raised. This is a single-protein food making it a great option for pets with protein related allergies or sensitivities. It’s also grain-free and contains superfoods!

We were also sent a bag of ZIWI Peak Chicken Recipe air dried food for cats. This is a really neat type of product that is air-dried in a centuries-old meat preserving technique which is quite a bit different from mass produced dry cat foods. Their air-drying technology locks in the goodness of the raw ingredients without artificial preservatives. Yet, it’s ready to serve making it a lot more convenient than feeding raw food diets or similar. This product is suitable to be used as a complete meal, or as a topper! I’ve sometimes thrown this in with kibble to add more variety, and other times I have used it as a topper for wet food. As I mentioned, Pepperoni isn’t a huge fan of pate texture so sometimes if she is served a pate wet food that she isn’t eating much of, I’ll add a little of this topper and she’ll eat the topper and then keep eating the canned food as well!  Like all their other products, these are ethically sourced from New Zealand. No artificial hormones are used, and the chickens are free-range.

ZIWI peak cat dry food options

Last but not least, we were sent steam dried ZIWI Peak south pacific fish recipe cat food. This one is also air-dried in smaller batches to preserve nutrition. This recipe is designed to help with healthy skin and coat, which is awesome for us as Pepperoni has long fur making her fur/hair health extra important to us. The South Pacific fish used in this recipe are ethically and sustainably sourced from South Pacific and Sub-antarctic waters. This is intended to be fed as a complete meal and Pepperoni has really liked it.

We’ve been really happy with the quality of these foods. Pepperoni has ate them all pretty well, and hasn’t had any signs of digestive issues or any other reactions or concerns when eating these foods. I love knowing that she’s getting top quality nutrition and that we’re supporting a more ethical pet food company.

This sounds like a high quality cat food. I love the idea of freeze dried food.

This sounds like a really good brand of cat food! I love that they offer both wet, dry, and air-dried food. I definitely need to have my cat try the air-dried food. I know this would make her really excited to eat.
