RICOH portable 150 monitor review

RICOH sent me a 150BW portable monitor for review. All opinions are my own.

As someone who works primarily from home in a small space, I’m always on the lookout for ways to maximize productivity without cluttering up my workspace. When RICOH reached out about trying their Portable Monitor 150BW, I was intrigued by the promise of added screen real estate in a compact, versatile package.

Right out of the box, I was impressed by how slim and lightweight this monitor is. At just 1.58 pounds and a mere 0.19 inches at its thinnest point, it’s incredibly portable. The included case makes it easy to toss in a bag for on-the-go use or to simply store it away when not needed. This is a huge plus for those of us with limited desk space!

The star of the show is undoubtedly the 15.6-inch OLED display. The colors are vibrant, the contrast is sharp, and the full HD resolution makes everything look crisp and clear. What really sets this monitor apart, though, is its touchscreen capability. As someone whose laptop doesn’t have a touchscreen, having this feature available has been a game-changer for certain tasks. Of course, plenty of people today don’t have a PC and rely on their phone. If you want a way to utilize your phone but on a bigger display, a RICOH portable monitor will let you do that!

I’ve found myself using the touchscreen frequently for brainstorming and note-taking. There’s something satisfying about being able to handwrite or sketch directly on the screen, especially when using the RICOH Stylus Pen (sold separately). It’s given me a way to enjoy the tactile feel of writing by hand while still keeping everything digital and easily accessible. No more losing scraps of paper with important notes!

The versatility of the RICOH 150BW is impressive. I can use it as a second screen for my laptop when I need extra workspace. For example, I can keep my email open on the RICOH screen while using my laptop screen to write a blog post. Or, I can use the RICOH as a standalone device for tasks like watching videos or reading documents. The ability to use it both wired and wirelessly adds to its flexibility. I’ve enjoyed being able to prop it up in bed to watch a movie without having to deal with cords.

Speaking of propping it up, the included stand is sturdy and adjustable, allowing you to set the monitor at almost any angle. This has been great for finding the perfect viewing position whether I’m sitting at my desk or lounging in bed.

Audio quality from the built-in speakers has surprised me. While they won’t replace a dedicated sound system, they’re more than adequate for video calls or casual media consumption. The sound is clear and can get quite loud if needed.

One feature I haven’t had the chance to try yet, but find intriguing, is the ability to wirelessly connect up to five of these monitors at once. For those working with complex setups or needing to display information to a small group, this could be a powerful tool.

After using the RICOH Portable Monitor 150BW for a few weeks, I’m impressed with how it’s enhanced my workflow. It’s given me the extra screen space I often need without requiring a permanent setup in my small home office. The touchscreen functionality has proven more useful than I initially expected, especially for tasks that benefit from a more hands-on approach.

If you’re in the market for a portable second screen that offers more than just extra display space, the RICOH 150BW portable monitor is definitely worth considering. Its combination of portability, versatility, and advanced features make it a valuable tool for both work and leisure.

I had no idea that portable monitors even existed, how cool! This particular one sounds amazing and so useful; I love that you can connect your phone to it too. I also really like the case, so it stays nice when moving it around and storing.
