Origin sent me a mattress for review. All opinions are my own.
My nephew Royce turned 9 this fall. As cliche as it is, I swear he was just a toddler last year! Time really flies when kids are growing up. When Origin Mattress reached out to me about a mattress partnership, I thought it was the perfect time to help upgrade Royce to an older kids bed. While he’s still small enough to be able to use a twin bed right now, I know in the next year or few years he is likely to hit some growth spurts with little warning. Better to have a bigger bed before it’s needed, right?
My sister’s upstairs is rather narrow around her staircase, so it’s not easy to get large furniture from the hallway into her kids’ rooms. I loved the idea of being able to keep this mattress rolled up tight in its box to get it into his room. The box was quite narrow (even compared to other mattress-in-a-box products I’ve seen!) so it was really easy to get it through doorways. It was heavy but we got it up the stairs with teamwork.
Royce got a new full sized bed frame, one with slats which works great for this mattress that doesn’t need a box spring as long as it has the right type of frame. We put the rolled up mattress on the frame and gently cut it open and got it situated on the frame. It popped up into full size in just seconds. We didn’t notice any odors, which was something I wasn’t sure of. I thought it might have a smell that would need to disipate over a day or so before he’d want to sleep on it, but it was great right out of the box.
The Origin Adapt Hybrid mattress is called a hybrid mattress because it has a combination of foam based materials and spring based materials. More specifically, the Origin Adapt Hybrid has seven layers, and the springs are found in the sixth layer. Three other layers are foam, one is hexagrid, one is wool, and the other is a SnowTencil cover.
When mattresses in a box were new, most of them were exclusively foam. So, if you’ve avoided them out of fear that they wouldn’t have enough support or firmness for you, that is no longer a worry! I laid on Royce’s new mattress briefly and found it to be comfortable, yet supportive. When sitting on the edge of the bed, I can tell that it holds its shape nicer than sitting on the edge of all-foam mattresses do. Yet, it doesn’t remind me of those old fashioned, really firm mattresses that were in my grandparents’ spare rooms. The brand rates this mattress a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale and that seems quite reasonable to me based on my experience laying on it.
The mattress is designed with 8 zones to help support the different parts of your body. The graphic below shows this well.
We got Royce a full-sized mattress which is a great size for older kids up through teens or even young adults!
Bragworthy features of the Origin Adapt Hybrid Mattress:
- The cover is made of SnowTencel™ which is a hypoallergenic, super soft layer that feels silky to the touch and has cooling properties. This mattress can sleep up to 10 degrees cooler than others, making it an awesome choice for those who “sleep warm” or live in hot climates.
- It’s hybrid, combining Individually pocketed steel springs for edge-to-edge mattress support, to relieve motion transfer and prevent transfer. Plus, multiple layers of different kinds of foam which provide buoyancy, support, adapt to your body, increase airflow and provide cushioning.
- It is made in the US so you can feel great about supporting US businesses.
- You can test it for up to 365 nights and still return it if you decide it’s not the right mattress for you!
- It’s made with premium and ecofriendly materials.
- Each month, the Origin uses some of their profit to help plant trees to fight deforestation in the US.
- Affordability. Origin has always made it their goal to be an affordable luxury mattress. The full size mattress is currently $579 – and shipping is free!
